March 29, 2007 - Dollar Bill Trivia

TRIVIA QUESTION:

If I have one pound of fresh, crisp dollar bills, how many dollars do I have?

TRIVIA ANSWER:

454. According to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the approximate weight of a currency note, regardless of denomination is (1) one gram. There are 454 grams in one (1) U.S. pound, therefore, there should be 454 notes in (1) one pound.

Congratulations to W6DTS and K6FCC who both got the answer of 454 on the nose. (Can you say Google?) Gary, W6NVY gets an attaboy for his answer of 453 (so close!). For more fun facts on money vist http://www.moneyfactory.gov/document.cfm/18/106

March 15, 2007 - Big Toe Trivia

Today's trivia question is simply...

TRIVIA QUESTION:

How many bones are there in your big toe?

TRIVIA ANSWER:

Each toe has three tiny bones, except for your big toe, which has just two.

Most people don't use their toes and feet for grabbing stuff or writing, but they do use them for two very important things: standing and walking. Without all the bones of the foot working together, it would be impossible to balance properly. The bones in the feet are arranged so the foot is almost flat and a bit wide, to help you stay upright. So the next time you're walking, be sure to look down and thank those toes!

A lot of you got this one right - congratulations! (Even if you had to take your shoe off and feel around your toes!) Here's the list of folks who checked in to tonight's net and their answers.

March 8, 2007 - Spare Change Trivia

The automobile is the most recycled consumer product in the world with 95% of all vehicles being reclaimed. About 750 million pounds of scrap are reclaimed by the automotive recycling industry each and every month.

TRIVIA QUESTION:

A lot of pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters are lost in those junked cars. Exactly how much in loose change is recoved from the average scrapped vehicle?

TRIVIA ANSWER:

According to the April 2007 edition of Popular Mechanics Magazine... The average scrapped vehicle contains $1.65 in change. The legal tender is retrived by the auto recycler who sells the coins back to the U.S. Mint at a per-pound rate that's close to face value.
