On this day in history... March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park was established by an Act signed by President Ulysses S. Grant as the Nation's first national park.

TRIVIA ANSWER:

58. The first was Yellowstone on March 1, 1872 and the latest was Great Sand Dunes in Colorado on September 24, 2004.



As of 2006, there are 390 official units of the National Park System. The Official Units of the National Park System of the United States is the collection of physical properties owned or administered by the National Park Service. This includes not only National Parks, but National Monuments, National Preserves, and Historic Sites.

But, our trivia question was the number National Parks, of which there are 58.
